School vs. Summer

Me During School:

I have to admit, being a full time student (working toward two, separate majors and two minors) and working full time (which involves up to 25 hours a week) can be a little stressful. It’s times like these that I wish that it were summer again. During the summer, I keep my on campus job. This doesn’t usually entail much during the summer because there are less people on campus. This means I get to get back to photography, reading, editing and blogging much more.

Me During Summer:

School time on the other hand, is a lot more complicated. I usually take at least 17 hours of classes, next semester I’m looking at 19, which isn’t too bad. Until you factor in work, and sorority things and time spent doing homework and studying. Don’t get me wrong, if I didn’t take a lot of hours I would be bored a lot of the time and not really push myself. The more hours I take, the harder I work. I am so backwards.

Even in pictures you can tell just how much more relaxed I am.

Anyways, point being. I want summer back. Pretty please?

This Past Weekend...

This past weekend was Kappa Alpha Theta's formal, which is basically when the new members of the sorority are presented into the community, aka our family and friends. Honestly, I had a blast (as did boyfriend! Which was an amazing shock to me). Boyfriend isn't exactly a fan of the whole sorority thing, but he set everything aside for the night and had an amazing time.

It seems as if the majority of pictures from formal I'm either laughing, or smiling really big.

Oh by the way, I'm blondish again! (See far right)

Abbs, the girl on the left, and I have been friends since fourth grade. She's truly one of my best friends. Sam, the girl on the right, is one of my newer friends. They're both beautiful

My Dad, looking all snazzy and such!

Dad and Boyfriend. So silly.

Myself, Abby and Samantha

A group shot of some of my favorite girls.

As I said, laughing a lot; we messed up the Theta Kite, but nobody really noticed.

One of my favorite pictures; two of my very best frineds

And again, pretty dresses.

And last but not least, my absolute favorite picture from the night.
I'm sad that I don't have any with my mom on my computer, but hopefully I'll get them soon!
Just thought I should share a few pictures. I'm still happy from this weekend.

Dress Check...1,2...

So, in a previous post I mentioned that after SRW I had to go to Dress Check. This is exactly what it sounds like. During Rush, each round we have to wear a different outfit. This entails everything from blue dresses, nude closed toed pumps, black closed toed pumps, black and white patterned dresses, lbd's, and even tennis skorts. Almost all of my outfits for rush got approved except my black dress, which was too big for me. I knew this going into it though, I had lost a lot of weight since the last time I wore it. I really didn't expect to get it approved so it's okay. Now I just have to go hunt for a new LBD, that fits properly.

Here's just a few examples of the attire that we have to wear:

I have everything, except my LBD. Must find one soon!

Greek Speak: SRW

I know when dealing with my family, friends and boyfriends if I say an abbreviation that has to deal with Theta, nobody understands. So, as I mentioned last post I went to this meeting basically called SRW. What SRW stands for is Spring Recruitment Workshop. What happens here is basically a slight 4 hour look into what my August is going to look like.

[Last year's normal Bid Day Picture]

What Spring Rush Workshop entails: a slight look into what I'll be doing 8 hours a day for a little over 2 weeks. The first week will be Fall Rush Workshop. This will entail screaming songs at the top of my lungs, learning ritual songs, and learning how to rush to get an amazing group of girls next semester. As exhausting as just the few hours of SRW was, I'm slightly nervous to see how FRW is going to go.

[Fall Bid Day "Crazy" Picture]

After we go through FRW, we'll be thrown into rushing girls. I'm so nervous yet so excited at the same time. I'm glad that I'll be on the other side of rush this year though. Last years rush was so intense. We battled the heat and the crazy thunderstorms to get where we are today.

[Late] Weekend Wrap Up!

This past weekend was SO full of events. Friday, I had Iniation for the new members [yay!], a really good friend coming in town that I had to see and to go and pick out paint swatches with my little sister. Saturday was full of St. Patty's Day Parade, Habitat for Humanity for Greek Week, and Olive Garden. Finally, Sunday was SRW [Spring Recruitment Workshop] and Dress Check (all of which I will explain in later posts!) So, needless to say this weekend was super busy and chock full of Theta things!

[This is my good friend S. She's a newly initiated member of Theta. Gotta love her. My main job was making sure she didn't fall off the ladder]

I promise I'll post detailed posts later, just so exhausted right now! Here are a few pictures from Habitat for Humanity!

Almost the entire group of girls who were working this shift were girls from Theta. I'm so proud of everyone who was there, taking time out of their day to help out some really great people.

Me and my best friend S. Gotta make sure you sign the wavier.

Oh you know, just goofing off!

Recently Seen:

Thanks to Netflix and my boyfriend, I've seen a ton of movies as of recently. Netflix because it's a godsend when I'm trying to do homework or just when I'm bored. Boyfriend is a Film and French major, so his love for movies is of course very prominent. Two movies that we have watched recently include The Virgin Suicides and The Social Network

The Virgin Suicides: Okay, let's be honest. I'm not a huge movie buff like boyfriend is. However, this movie came highly recommended from our friend Kiki. Without going into great detail, the movie is about five sisters who live under their mothers insanely strict rule. Honestly, I don't see how the mother is so strict, a lot of the time it just bothered me how strict she was. Anyways, the movie was good. Boyfriend had a few "technical" problems with it, but he is a film major. It's what I expect from him. There were a few parts that made me cringe, but then again I'm silly when it comes to watching movies. All in all I'd say go for it.

The Social Network: This was a movie that I was interested in seeing in theaters, but never got around to it (I have a lot of those). So, when I went over to boyfriends house one day he suggested we watch it and I greatly agreed. The movie is about the making of Facebook and the law suits it went through after it was launched. The movie was fantastic, after all it did win 3 Oscars. It was a little tough for me to follow at times because he spoke so fast. Overall it was an excellent movie.

Documentary Kick?

As of  lately I've been obsessed with documentaries. I really do just love watching them and learning about so many different new things. One of the first documentaries that I watched was one called Freak-o-Nomics.

Freak-o-nomics was suggested to me by one of my close friends CA. It talks about combinding pop culture with economics. It dabbles in a little bit of sociology and anthropology, which is one of my majors currently. It was originally a book that has been documented into a documentary. If you ever get a chance, I highly suggest watching it. If you have netflix, it's on instant play. (Which is such a godsend).

The next documentary that I watched was called Exit Through the Gift Shop.

This documentary was about how a French shop keeper/"film maker" tries to find and befriend local graffiti artists and stumbles across Banksy. One of the most renowned graffiti artists today. This documentary really opened my eyes to street art and made me really appreciate a lot of it. It was so awesome being able to see how some of the most famous graffiti artists go about making up and posting their art. Definitely a must watch, and also on Netflix instant stream.

Bonnaroo!

Default.aspx.png

That's right. Bonnaroo. I'm proud to say that I get to go this year, with Boyfriend. Our friends have been going for the last 2-3 years and finally my dad caved in and is letting me go. Some bands that I'm excited to see for one are The Black Keys, Robert Plant & Band of Joy, Mumfrod & Sons, The Strokes, The Decemberists, Bassnectar, Iron & Wine, Girl Talk and Florence + the Machine. Honestly, I could go on and on. I actually bought the tickets a while back but had to make sure everything was lined up before I announced it on here.  It's so hard for me to get through classes when all I can do is want summer SO BADLY! I'm so excited and I cannot wait to go and tell you how the experience is.

Music of the Moment

As silly as it is, whenever I'm in a bad mood if I just put this son on it makes me smile.

Weekend Wrap Up!

Well, one thing is for sure. That would be that I had a fantastic week/weekend. This past week was my boyfriends Spring Break/Mardi Gras Vacation. I only had Monday and Tuesday (and part of Wednesday) off but I spent most of Monday and part of Wednesday working. So, boyfriend came into town and stayed the whole time, this was a very rare occasion.

The rest of my weekdays were filled to the brim with homework, studying, and cleaning. Then the weekend came. At first, I didn't think that this weekend was going to be busy. Boy was I wrong. You see, Friday Boyfriend and I just hung out, ran errands and went to bed somewhat early (read: midnight). Then we had to wake up SUPER EARLY Saturday morning (read: 8am). So we woke up super early and were supposed to go eat breakfast with my friend Kiki (who runs this little blog). But, due to sickness she was unable to make it :(

She's so incredibly kind and beautiful. Love her. SO, after we ran back to my dorm, we had to hurry and pack up a bag for the weekend, run errands with boyfriend and then head to New Orleans for our friends Kristen and Greg's engagement shower. The shower was beautiful. It was a night shower, so we had to get dressed up. Boyfriend wore a button down shirt and a sweater, and I of course was wear a dress and flats (boyfriend isn't much taller than me so I don't usually wear heels).

(This is not a picture from this weekend. Unfortunately I forgot to bring a camera. BUT it is a picture of boyfriend and I)

All in all it was a fun weekend. We ended up not getting home till late Saturday night and then woke up early Sunday (read: 11am ish) and I had to drive back home so I could get some homework done.

Not Blonde, Yet.

So, I did dye my hair this past weekend. However, it didn't turn out quite as blonde as I wanted it to. It's alright though. It now looks like this:

I don't mind. I just want it really blonde! I miss my hair.

Blonde?

Tonight, after we come home from one of the Mardi Gras parades, my friend is going to dye my hair back blonde! I'm so excited. Really. I loved my hair different shades, but I'll always be a blonde at heart.

Here's a picture of me now:

And here's a picture of me with my blonde hair (at this time, it was natural):

My sister likes to call me a hippie with my hair and aviators (which I've lost and need to replace).

I can't wait.

Boyfriends.

Last weekend, I got to see my boyfriend for the first time in two or so weeks. Let me say, I know that an hour and a half away is not long distance, but it still sucks. So, we literally slept, all weekend. Made it out to two cute little family parades.

Then Sunday we went to this cute little levee and just watched the boats and birds.

He's so silly I swear. He loves posing.

This is What Stress Looks Like:

Literally all last week and this week has been filled with is homework assignments, tests and quizzes. Now, I realize that I'm in college and that's what it's supposed to be like, but COME ON. Last week: 4 tests, a quiz and about 10 homework/reading assignments. This week: 2 tests, 3 quizzes, and a lot of sorority things to do.

This is what stress looks like:

My body is begging me to stop eating bad food. BEGGING me. And it's pleading for sleep.

So, I shall drink my tea and eat my pineapples. Back to the Minoans and Mycenaeans. Lets cram 1000 years of history into one night! Oh and can't forget Anthropology.

Thank goodness Mardi Gras is this weekend.
