Now Let's Recap

So, Friday night I went to my first Hornets game with my friends Kristen, Greg, Adam, Ryan and Jennifer! It was positively amazing. I can honestly say that I've now been converted to a basketball fan. So after we went to the hornets game, we just chilled out and had some fun. Saturday was just a chill day getting home, going to the mall and such.

Today, however, I'll be working Habitat For Humanity. I absolutely love being able to give back to my community, and what better way than to help build a house? So from 12:30-4:30, I'll be helping! I can't wait. Although service hours are required for school, I like being able to give back to my community. Get involved !

Hoops

Tonight, I'll be attending my first New Orleans Hornets basketball game. Although the Hornets aren't the best (read: they're actually very bad) I have a feeling tonight's game will be fun. A few of my friends who live in New Orleans are always on my case how I've watched football (and pretty much every other sport except basketball) but I've never been to a Hornets game. However, that will all change tonight. After school I'll head home and pack my bags (and hope to find something cute/casual to wear tonight) then it's off to my first game. Now, I played a little bit of basketball in my day (about 4 years in elementary school) but that doesn't mean it's my absolute favorite sport. I'm hoping for the best!

Are You READY!?

We have this day here at my school called Challenge Day. We'll since we go to an all girls school and there's a all boys school about two blocks away. Boys vs. Girls. Picture this: 600 girls running toward you, yelling as loud as they can and just hyped up as can be. And that's only a little bit of what goes on.  As you can already believe things get mighty tense. Well instead of having a homecoming week (it's an all girls school, who really cares) we have Challenge Week. It is possibly the best week of the entire year (besides graduation of course). Here's just a little insight of how next week will go. Magical Monday, Toddler Tuesday, Wedding Wednesday, TI-84 Thursday (Nerd Day), Challenge Day is Friday. I am beyond excited for this. I mean, besides being my last challenge day ever, the girls WILL dominate the boys (even though the boys cheat all the time). I'll be sure to keep you updated!

Dancing In the Streets

So, last night was my first day back to dance class in about two weeks (for one reason or another) and I must say it kicked my butt. Although I'm not as sore as I thought I would be today, it really made me work. I don't dance (or exercise for that matter) as much as I should/would like to. I wish I could just blame it on the fact that I have extremely bad knees/ankles but it's just as much my laziness that contributes also. Therefore, I've devoted at least 20 minutes a day to yoga or running or doing something active.  Also, my feet do like the picture occasionally, but not because I do point but because I'm too stubborn to even dance with my shoes on. Picture:  via google images

Rainy Day Dreams

Product Image Zenia Rain Boots- BlackSo, I've decided recently that, seeing I'll be heading off to college next year a good investment will be rain boots. After what it feels like searching and searching online for the perfect rain boots I've decided to take my search to the city. Now, first stop, who knows (but that makes it all the more fun anyways). Also, I'm someone that you'll never catch dead in a zebra print rain boots or even a pattern. I'm going to stick to a nice solid color (and some liners for the times Louisiana actually decides to get a little colder). Hopefully, I'll be successful in my quest to find the perfect boots. I'm kind of liking these ones from target, nice and simple.

How Polished Are You?

One of my favorite things is nail polish. I mean, how can you not love it? Usually, I don't have my nails polished (because I work in a bakery), but  every now and then when I have more than two days off, I'll paint my nails. Yes, I know, I could paint my toenails but since I dance, it's not really an option at this point. However, once June rolls around and we have our annual Revue, I'll be able to paint my toenails all I want! Recently, I've fallen in love with a few of OPI's nail colors such as Go On Green!, Makes Men Blush, and Dim Sum Plum. I can't wait to go on a huge shopping spree to restock my polish !

In My Predictions

So, apparently tonight/tomorrow morning we're supposed to be having rain/snow showers. RAIN AND SNOW. What is this? I'm just way too confused. Now the question that we care about, will we have school? I'm voting yes. But really, snow? I just really cannot wrap my head around this. If only it would look like this, maybe just for one day.

Spring Cleaning -- The Body Issue

Okay, so recently I've been feeling kinda down lately. It's possibly because of the fact that Louisiana's weather keeps changing. Yesterday, for example, was BEAUTIFUL! It was about 65ish degrees and I could ride with my windows down and just blare my music and be happy. Well, I woke up this morning and guess what; it was a whooping 35 degrees. Yes. That's right 35 DEGREES. So I've decided that this week, when I have time (haha) sometime that I'm going to go to wholefoods and get this 365 Everyday Value Body Cleanse.
I may have time Wednesday, after the eyedoctor and picking up my check and before dance, to go and run in and get it. It's only $16.99, which is cheap for a body cleanse (some can run up to $1600 A MONTH). It's only a two week deal that consists of taking pills in the morning and the evening. I figure while I'm on this "healthy" kick, that I'd run to the supermarket and get some vitamins and fish oil (which is supposed to be really good for you). Now, if I can only remember to take everything, I should be feeling better in no time!

Monday, Monday

So the blog's title is called A Day In The Life, so I only see it fit to write about a Monday in my life.

5:30am - My father walks in, "Maria, it's half an hour till." ... I'm well aware dad, thanks.
5:45am - My dad comes in again, "Maria, it's a quarter till" "DAD I KNOW"
5:50am - My alarm begins to blare T-Pain to wake me up. I groan and roll over and shut it off.
5:55am - My alarm once begins to sing to me. This time I get up and turn on my lights while thinking to myself "just fiveee more minutes"
6:00am - I slowly make my way out of bed and begin to put on my uniform, while attempting to make sure I have on the correct socks and such.
6:10am - I walk out to my car in haste while trying to remember if I have any homework from the past week and a day we had off. I drive to go and wait for the girl I bring to school to be dropped off.
6:25am - Holly finnally gets there and we get on our way to school while listening to our favorite morning show, Kid Kraddic in the Morning
6:50am - We make it to school, however, we don't want to get out and face the day that we have ahead so we chill in the car for about 10 more minutes. Finally when 7:00am rolls around we find the strength to get out of the car and head to breakfast. 20 minutes. Just enough time to do that physics homework I had been putting off for the last week and a day.
7:20am - The second bell rings and then announcements come on.
7:25am: English - Our teacher, who is usually jacked up on coffee, is absent today. So we have a crap-ton of busy work. Oh boy. We're supposed to be reading and taking notes on Paradise Lost by Milton. Instead of doing this, however, I decided to email some friends and catch up on my daily dose of gossip.
8:20am: World History - I absolutely hate this class. Not the class itself, however, it's the teacher I hate. She treats us like we are two years old and is generally a crazy person. Of course, as I go into this class, she attempts to greet me and make me smile. This of course only makes it worse. After repeating herself about 20 times, she decides were going to watch a movie and fill in questions on it. Of course it's an "educational" movie...worst...ever...
9:22am: Adult Responsibility: Today is the first day I have EVER gotten lost at SJA. Now, let me explain. Recently the convent has been under construction, so more rooms have been added and it's totally confusing. So, I'm just walking around the convent extremely confused. I got there about 5 minutes late, but it was okay because I wasn't the latest one. During class, we didn't do much just worked on our project. It's called the "Apartment Finder" and it's supposed to prepare us for life and such...
10:17am: Lunch: That's right. Lunch. I have lunch at 10 in the morning...While eating my red beans and rice, I went from fashion website to fashion website. My only time during the day to just relax.
11:12am Math: Review, review, review. That's all we're going to be doing for the next two days to prepare us for our HUGE test. Oh boy! After reviewing we had a worksheet to help us understand.
12:07am: Computer Architecture - Today was a busy busy day at the help desk. We had so much to do and there were a crazy amount of computers that needed to be re-imaged and set up. Working in the help desk is fun because I get to learn so much about computers and how to fix them!
1:02pm: World Religions - This week we're learning about Christianity. Not that difficult since we already answered 42 questions while we were off. Today we went through some of the questions and really got into the nitty-gritty of the bible and disciples and the background of the Catholic religion. But mostly, it's not that difficult, it's quite easy to read blogs and vogue and fashion online while answering questions. Yay multitasking.
1:57: Physics - The dreaded physics class. Now, it wouldn't be dreaded but my teacher is a complete air head sometimes, and other times she leaves class 30 minutes early. Now, don't get me wrong, I love having time off to do whatever I want. But then again, it's difficult to take a test on information you know nothing of. Today was no different. She left, 15 minutes into class. Left us with busy work, which I didn't do...
2:47pm - The final bell rings and I rush out of the classroom so that I can get to work somewhat on time. Once I finally got to work, it was a SLOWWW day. When I say slow, I mean slow as molasses.
8:20pm - Home at last. Don't be fooled though. That doesn't mean sleep and shower. That means that I have a mountain of homework to do and then I'll be able to go to sleep..

And there you have it. One day in my life. Think you can handle it? I know I can't sometimes

Just Another Day In the Park

So yesterday, I got bored (after a countless hours on the road for a dress fitting, but that's another story) and so I made my little sister and her friend Holly come out with me so I could take their pictures and such. Sounded like a good idea, in theory. They got awesome time out the house and I got to play with my camera. Wrong. They would not let me take their pictures easily, but then again I got some good shots. Let's just say next time, I'm bringing someone more cooperative. Here are some pictures below from yesterday!

GPS

So I love love love roadtrips, right? Well this morning I had to go to Mandeville to get fitted for my bridesmaid dress for my cousins wedding. Needless to say, I would have NEVER ever gotten there by myself...WELLL it just so happens that my lovely gps was there to guide me. Turns out I was in the car for 3 1/2 hours and in the dress fitting for a total of 10 minutes... Fun stuff... I got there and the dress fit perfectly, no alterations needed...Now I'm about to drag my little sister and her friend to go and take pictures. More like forcing them to come so I can have someone to take pictures of. (: This should be interesting!

Some Things You May (Or May Not) Know About Me

1. I love love love summertime more than winter. Don't get me wrong, I love snow every now and then and the cold is good every now and then, but I'm way more of a summertime person!

2. Although I may go out sometimes with friends, if given the choice, I'd rather spend a night in with friends just chillin' or watching movies.

3. Love seafood & the whole Louisiana culture

4. I swear...not a lot. A lot of times I say "Aw piss"...which now a lot of my friends have picked up

5. I'm not afraid to tell you how I feel, and I'm sorry if it may hurt your feelings, but I'd rather tell you the truth and how I really feel than mask my feelings and you later find out and be mad at me.

6. I dance to the beat of my own drum. Don't try and label me, you will not succeed.

7. I want two tattoos! One one my wrist that says love (for multiple reasons) and one on the back of my neck/somewhere on my back that says Familia Ante Omnia which means Family Above All Else. If you want to know why for both, just ask!

8. I want to travel the world. Really, I do. The architecture and culture and arts of everywhere else is just so inspiring to me. I want to learn as much as I can about other places.

9. I'm addicted to facebook. Like really bad..that and following peoples blogs.

10. I'm extremely hard headed. Once I get something in my mind, don't try and change it. I will do it the way I want to, regardless of the fact if it's "the hard way".

11. I love New Orleans. Everything about it. I love it that the city never sleeps, the dirtyness of it, the architecture, the fact that there always seems like there's something to do there, the food, the music, and the culture.

12. I'm OCD...like SEVERELY OCD.

13. I live by music. It's what drives me to dance, sing, and just be myself. I'm a quite silly person.

14. I'm dedicated. Very, very, very dedicated.

15. I don't think I'm hot shit. At all, what so ever. I'm not going to ever be one of those girls who thinks that their shit doesn't stink. I'm very down to earth and probably one of the most mature 17 (almost 18) year olds that you will ever meet.

16. Oh and my friends mean the world to me. They're pretty much my family and my rock.

The New Love of My Life

My Nikon D90 finally came in yesterday! I'm so excited it's crazy. I have not let that thing leave my sight, which is a slightly bad thing since I have things that need to get done. I.e. bring the beads to my co-worker, cash my check, get ready for Ashlee's birthday dinner...and the list goes on. I'm just so happy that it came in I don't want to do anything but take pictures. I've only taken one or two but I'm already obsessed with it!

Mardi Gras Mambo

So today was the day of all days, Mardi Gras Day, aka one of my favorite days of the year. This year was spent just like the past two years, in Metairie at the parades. Yes, parades. There are three that roll back to back to back! Needless to say, I had a blast. I ended up bringing my friend Catie Ragsua (Ragg), and we had so much fun. We have a group that goes every year and with that group comes food, parking, space right in the front of the parade route and drinks. This year, Ragg and I decided to make a sign that says "I Bet You Can't Hit This!"...bad idea or good idea. Bad idea: We had so many people chunking bags of beads at our faces...yes thats right, BAGS and boy oh boy do those things hurt. Good Idea: I got a crap ton of beads for my friend Chance....goal achieved. All in all it was an awesome day, except for the fact my face is now the color of a tomato...Now off to bed for me considering I have to BE at work for 6AM tomorrow morning....

Lundi Gras!

Happy Lundi Gras! Oh, how I wish I was in New Orleans right now having fun at all the parades, but instead I'm getting ready to work an 8 hour shift -_-. Oh the joys of working in a Bakery. I'm at least lucky that I get off tomorrow (the only person who works where I do to get off). Oh well! I cannot wait till Ragg (Catie Ragusa) comes over tonight in preparation for an epic tomorrow ! (We're making signs).

Happy Valentines Day!

So, although Valentines Day isn't my favorite holiday I feel as if this Valentines day will be a fun one, considering I'm going to a parade with my family. So, before I leave I figured I'd leave you with a few things that I love

1. Coffee Mugs & Tea Cups
2. The smell of boy (i.e. axe, old spice...)
3. Music & my iPod
4. Warm weather and summer dresses
5. The smell of rain (:

Well that's all I could think of for now (:

Goooodbyeeee Snow

So, It's already stopped snowing and began raining again. Well, the snow is gone. All of it. On the plus side, I got some cute pictures (: Here's one of my little sister building one of her little snowmen !

SNOW

So, I wake up about 20 minutes ago to my younger sister (she's 14) coming into my room and whispering "Maria, it's snowing". I quickly jumped out of bed and rushed to put warm clothes on and ran outside with her. It's snowing. Like legitimately snowing. It's only supposed to get heavier too! By 9am, we're supposed to have a lot of snow and the best part? IT'S SUPPOSED TO STICK. Now I go outside and sit on my sister's balcony and watch the snow fall (:

I would just like to point out that it's the second time this year and the third time in the last two years (:

Casey O'Connell

So I randomly stumbled upon this artist named Casey O'Connell while doing some random searching the other day. The thing is, now I'm obsessed. I absolutely love her artwork. The good thing about it is, her prints are actually affordable (some ranging from 14.95!). I can't stop looking at her artwork and randomly obsessing over it...To the right is a painting she's done called When Freckles Collide. Now, it doesn't really have the white X over it, that's just because I stole the picture off a website, but still.  Although now I live with my dad, and the next few years I'll live in a dorm/apartment while in college, I cannot wait to have a house all to myself that I can decorate however I want to! Check out more of her artwork here! It's absolutely fantastic! I'm more into her 2008-2010 collection than I am of her 2006-2007, but don't get me wrong, it's all so wonderful!

Senioritis

Why can I not motivate myself to do anything productive today? Maybe it's the 1-2 inches of snow that we're supposed to get. Maybe it's because I have a total of 12 weeks left of school. Maybe it's because I was up till 2 AM studying for this world history test that I don't feel prepared for at all. Maybe it's because Mardi Gras is next week and maybe it's because I just ordered my Nikon D90 last night! I think I'm going to have to go with all of the above.. I really hope that it snows tonight just so we don't have school tomorrow! I'll totally snuggle up under my covers with a huge cup of hot chocolate and a good book tomorrow. I think I'm going to start reading the Ellen Hopkins series beginning with Impulse. If you want to read about what it's about click here!

"Snow"

Thursday night there's supposed to be a chance of "wintery mix"...if only it would look like this again...

Scholarships? What Scholarships?

So as senior year is coming to an end and my high school career is quickly ending the search for scholarships is now an important thing on my parent's minds. I must get about 5 or 6 emails a day about "you have a new scholarship waiting for you" and "come check out this scholarship". Besides the fact that I don't really care all that much (I have a major case of senioritis), it's major stress. I mean, as a high school senior, I have school (which involves massive amounts of homework), work, dance, and attempting to keep a social life. So I'm devoting an entire afternoon today to going through all my scholarship things that I haven't gotten around to just yet. I have a feeling that this is going to take a long time, so I'm gathering supplies now: coffee, and music.

Playing For Change

So today, I was listening to the radio and was hearing about celebrities favorite cause. So I decided to make to day about one of my favorite causes called Playing For Change. It's about this group of guys who decided to promote peace through music. There are a group of musicians from all over the world who get together and play concerts for change. Most of these musicians have never met each other (in the video below) and they were just singing the song and playing their instrument. Well, my favorite song that they've done is called Stand By Me, and it even features Grandpaw Elliot who is from New Orleans. If anyone's ever gone down to New Orleans and walked around you may have seen him and heard him play. Everyone should check it out!

Spring Awakening

Spring! Spring! Spring! Oh, how I’m so ready for some warmer weather. Louisiana has had an unseasonably cold winter this year and I’m so ready for the warmth to come back. With warmer weather, brings new fashion trends. Click here for an overview of what’s coming for spring. I have to say, by the looks of things, I can’t wait. Favorite line that I've looked at so far, Emilio Pucci. If you want to look at it then check here! Two favorite looks have to be the one to the right of Elsa Sylvan and  there is one that Mariacarla Bonscono wears of a metallic wrap dress with some greyish shoes like the ones to the right. I think I'm going to have to find those shoes now...I'm slightly in love with them...

Saints.

I've been following the Saint's since I was about 3 years old. Young, I know. So for my first post, I thought it would only be appropriate to have it on Super bowl Sunday, after the Saints dominated. That game was possibly the most heart-wrenching game that I've watched for a while. I mean, don't get me wrong all of the post-season games have been insanely close, but this one takes the cake. My favorite play of the game had to be the game changing event of Tracy Porter's interception for a 74-yard return. After growing up in Baton Rouge and spending every waking moment possible in New Orleans with my family, words cannot describe how much this game meant to me, my family and this city. Needless to say, there's going to be partying in New Orleans until Mardi Gras, and I wouldn't be surprised if it would go on even longer after that. One thing's for sure, this has been one of the best years of Saints football that I have seen in my entire life.
